Feast or Famine

Hello September! It’s a NEW month, which means 30 days for a new mindset. Whatever season you are going through, you can get through it.

Throughout life there are time we are in a “feast” or “famine”. As the name implies, a feast is when life is plentiful. The world is in motion working with you and your efforts accomplishing what you set out to do. A famine is when times are difficult as if you are moving against the current. The world is moving slower as your strength is tested.

What do you do?

The lesson to learn is to know what season you are in to know what’s coming. Late June I was training for my first half-marathon and was ready to take on the world. Mid-July I was hospitalized and felt my world slow down. I was advised to take it easy for a while. I took this time to read and mentally map out my next move. When I physically tried to set my world in motion, I hit a roadblock. The efforts I once did to accomplish something great did not produce the same results as I used to. Something had to change.

Feast Famine

I accepted what season I was in – a famine. I reorganized my priorities and set new goals. My deadlines were tentatively set. I followed my priorities and sought out wisdom where I could find it within my network. I picked up more books and read. I didn’t try to think of a way out of the season but asked for contacts to meet up with me and share their experience. I absorbed what I heard and genuinely thanked each person for meeting with me. (Thank you Bernadette, Keith, Tiffany, Kevin, Jordan, Madalyn, Marie, Reid, Nick, and so many more!)

I was ready to take action. As lessons were given me to, I put my energy into action. I kept calling for more appointments until I got the results I wanted. It took more energy out of me because I was out of the “natural rhythm” I set for myself, but I kept going. Every day I wanted to accomplish three to five things. Nothing more.

As my action increased, my world began to shift. The seasons were changing and I got more opportunities to meet and talk with others. My eyes were focused on where I wanted to go and the world brought it closer to me. It took longer than it used to, but I knew it would come.

What kind of season are you in? How can I help?

Life Prepares You for the Journey

Happy New Year!

I realized something over the holidays, life works itself out. What I do at RT Consulting is specialize in marketing plans, which requires me to forecast months and quarters ahead for client goals. When the holidays were “planned”, my role slows down as business carries on. Through the holiday, I realized life prepares you for the journey.

One day I was working in the morning and had a play date with my nephew in the afternoon. The plan was to get work done early, play in the afternoon, his mom (my sister) pick him up, and get more work done. Easy enough.

We went to the playground and I brought a pen and notebook to write my thoughts as I had one eye on him. After a few minutes of writing, I found myself playing “monster” on the playground with him and the other kids. When I got tired, I sat down and soaked in the atmosphere. Another parent got of his phone and he started where I left off. It was a magical experience.

When it was time to leave, my nephew asked me to carry him on my back. He is six and over 40 pounds. Sure he could have walked, but I’m his favorite aunt and I know he is young only a short while. I carried him home a mile away. It wasn’t easy but it made his day.

Life - Journey

Fast forward to today. I was leaving a client’s office when I was asked to take some equipment out of the office for an event. I had to carry it to my car. Guess what? The equipment was actually lighter than my nephew, which made the process easier.

During another client meeting I was asked what my resolutions were for 2015. When I was at the park the day before, I wrote down:

Be present – focus on what is in front of you

Be proactive – step out of your comfort zone and unwind when it is time

Be prayerful – find peace in between the now and not yet

as my focus for the upcoming year. My writing has turned into action and shaped my meeting with campus leader and friend, Sarah Greenwald.

I was prayerful prior to our meeting and definitely present with her in the time we spent together. We shared stories since we last met and it was great. I wasn’t “clock watching” or worried about my next meeting. It was great to be in the moment with her.

What does all this have to do with life and our individual journeys?

Maybe we are supposed to go after what our heart desires until we find peace. Keep searching for what brings value to you and your purpose. Peace brings the assurance that propels our path for what lies ahead. It is the process from searching from within that prepares us for the world. We may not have all the answers or timelines figures out, but what we face today prepares us for the journey for what lies ahead.

Am I Wrong to Believe There is Hope in Front of Me?

Life is about moving forward. If we move backward, then we are living in the past. Reflect on the past to propel yourself further but sometimes progress is s-l-o-w. Times like this are to remind us, we are growing in an area of our life that took years to develop. Our mindset is always evolving by what we surround and tell ourselves. The habits we have did not form overnight. So why do we expect progress to happen any sooner than it is suppose to?

How do you get from where you are now to where you want to be in life?

  • Find inspirational sources to encourage you
  • Listen to powerful music
  • Meditate
  • Align your life with the vision you have for yourself
  • Inspire others
  • Dream bigger

Two songs that have got me excited for what is to come are “Hope In Front of Me” by Danny Gokey and “Am I Wrong” by Nico & Vinz.

If you LIKE my business page on Facebook, you will see a common thing happening on Fridays I call a “Friday Focus”. The topic varies by what you suggest or what comes to mind. My goal is to help YOU, the reader, to take away something valuable than you may not have considered before. If you want to contribute to an upcoming Friday Focus, please leave me a comment and we can make it happen.

Once your dreams start becoming your reality, the possibilities are endless and the world cannot stop you.

On Wednesday, I posted this on Facebook:

Two days later, let me tell you how excited I am I pushed myself then to see what’s happening in my life today.

The meeting I had made myself go on Wednesday set my thinking process in motion. The message gave me a new direction to consider, which aligned with the meeting I had this morning. This past week, I have persevered knowing I am on the verge of a new season of letting go of fear, erasing the doubt from my life, and to start the path I choose to follow.

There isn’t a guide-book to life. As an entrepreneur, I find myself with a burning desire to continue connecting my ambition with my dreams. (So what, isn’t dreaming what got you here in the first place?) I had dreams to set my schedule, it happened. I had a business goal to work for Every Nation Campus Harvest; I’m doing it. I had a dream to share my story and encourage others; I get to do that with every blog post and speaking event I attend.

Once your dreams start becoming your reality, the possibilities are endless and the world cannot stop you.

I challenge YOU with this: If you have the will, you will find a way. Now, what’s stopping you? How can I help?

You don’t choose your life, you live it

I have heard the phrase “Life isn’t fair, so get used to it” for as long as I can remember. I never liked hearing it and have used it as my goal to live life beyond what life put in front me. I learned quickly that life is not what I thought it would be at this point in my life, but I do not have to compromise by accepting what the world has told me it is.

Are you living a life full of value? What are you doing today to bring you closer to your dreams tomorrow? You don’t choose your life, you live it! When you take a hold of your life and start living in moments that lead to memories, you start living a life worth while.

Living like this is rewarding with these simple steps.

Make an adventure or buck list of all the things you want to do in life. Look at this list to remind you, you life is full of wonder. When you give into your sense of wonder, you will be more likely to go out and finish something on your list.

Love others more. Really. This might sound weird or maybe unrealistic to some, but it is well worth trying. When you put others before yourself, your heart starts to feel things it might not have felt before. Love is a verb. A verb is an action word. (You know where I am going with this.) Act in a way others can see how much you care about them. Not everyone will reciprocate, but it builds your character regardless.

Compare your life to your dreams, not others. When you start comparing your life to those around you, you can either get instant motivation or depression. Either emotion is temporary until you start living the life that brings you closer to your dreams.

How do you do this? Visualize your life when your dreams get accomplished by creating a dream board. Have you ever cut out magazine clippings and made them into a collage? This is the same thing. Find pieces that represent your dreams to inspire you to make them into a reality. Dream big and dream often by making new boards as you go through life.

Listen more, talk less. The more you listen to others, the more you can learn from their mistakes. You may not agree with what everything everyone may say to you, but you can at least respect them enough to listen. Advice is wisdom with a smile. Take mental notes on who you admire and model your life’s actions after theirs.

I will be 25 years old in less than 12 hours. My life has reached a milestone. I am a quarter of a century and am eager to see how the rest this century plays out with me living life to the fullest.

How are you living your life?
